Greetings Reader - Our free monthly series, Community Conversations, continues next week. This month, again by popular request, we’re going to extend and deepen our conversation from last month and talk about "Karma, Consciousness, and Healing." We’ll explore issues that revolve around our responsibility for the choices we make in this life—and the choices we made in past lives, personal growth, and the many things that have an impact on us that are beyond our control. What does yoga wisdom have to say about disabilities, illnesses, or other kinds of personal misfortune and our spiritual evolution? Is there a cause and effect relationship? Are the afflictions we experience attributable to random fate in a senseless universe, punishment for past misdeeds long ago forgotten, things we unconsciously wish upon ourselves and irrationally perpetuate of my own volition, cruelty arising from divine indifference, or something we need, though surely don’t want, to help move us further along the path to enlightenment? We'll explore these and other related question in our next COMMUNITY CONVERSATION a free monthly study group Live via Zoom @ 12:00 pm Eastern Time NEXT CONVERSATION: Wednesday, September 10, 2025 TOPIC: "KARMA, CONSCIOUSNESS, AND HEALING" Registration is free – CLICK HERE to get updates and the Zoom link! This conversation will be recorded - if you can't join us live you can watch the replay anytime. Community Conversation is a FREE monthly online gathering where we connect spiritual ideas to real life by talking about personal challenges we all share, difficult issues we all face, and how the ancient spiritual teachings of the yoga tradition offer practical guidance for navigating our way through life in the modern world. Greetings Reader - Every night for the past couple of weeks, I’ve been going out to a major intersection near the end of our street to bang on pots and pans for 5 minutes with my neighbors. It may sound like a random act of lunacy, but it’s actually a style of protest with a long and storied history. Beginning as mock serenades, noise casseroles became a popular form of protest in France in the 1830s, re-emerged in Algeria in 1961, and has since spread around the world, from South America to...

But all I really feel like doing right now is fighting. If you feel the same way, you might be wondering how to reconcile the urge to fight with the desire to live a spiritual life. The symptoms of spiritual consciousness are detachment from material affairs, equanimity in all circumstances, and kindness to...
