The Dharma Rebellion Continues!

Hi Reader,

I’m inviting you to a new 8-week live series that asks a simple question with big implications: What does a truly devotional response to today’s political and cultural realities look like?

The Dharma Rebellion: Resistance and Renewal

Starts Wednesday, October 22nd at 7:00 pm EDT

Live on Zoom - recordings available for replay

Suggested donation $10-$15 per class (no one turned away)

Across eight sessions, we’ll explore bhakti-yoga as both a spiritual practice and a political philosophy with real-world implications. Each week blends teachings from yoga wisdom texts like the Bhagavad-gītā and Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam with historically proven strategies for nonviolent resistance and for preparing healthy transitions after authoritarian rule ends.

What you'll learn:

  • A clear, accessible framework for bhakti as a cultural and social paradigm beyond partisan models.
  • Actionable steps linking the four pillars of dharma to effective, nonviolent resistance.
  • Lessons from historical movements of moral courage—and the spiritual roots that sustained them.
  • How the Vedic system of varna-dharma can inform democratic renewal, climate action, economic opportunity, and social justice in a post-authoritarian America.
  • The unifying story of the Dharma Rebellion—and how to live that story now in personal and community practice.

Who this is for:
Yoga teachers, students, seekers, and spiritual practitioners who want to think deeply—and act conscientiously—at the intersection of spirituality, politics, and culture.

P.S.: Earlier this year I ran an 8-part series called Dharma Rebellion: Bhakti Yoga’s Vision of Spiritual Resistance tracing how bhakti-yoga’s worldview engages today’s ideologies—and why yoga wisdom doesn’t fit a simple left/right frame. This new series stands on its own—no prior course required.

If you would like to learn more about Dharma Rebellion I and enroll to watch the recordings, CLICK HERE. You do not need them to benefit from this series, but they’re available if you want the full backstory.

Greetings Reader, It was very nice to receive so many replies to last week’s email. Reading about the many songs that inspire happiness in so many of you made me . . . happy. I’m also glad so many readers took me up on the challenge to find all of the song titles and references I inserted into my email. The funniest thing was that someone (thank you, Cynthia) found a couple of song titles that I didn’t even intend to include! They were “I Want to be Happy” from the musical No, No, Nanette...

Greetings Reader - Our free monthly series, Community Conversations, continues next week. This month, we're going to explore the concept of upādhi — temporary material identities — in the context of marginalized social experiences. The liberal conception of identity gives names to marginalized groups of people —BIPOC, queer, Trans, neurodivergent, Autistic, disabled, etc. — and encourages marginalized people to find of wholeness and belonging by stepping into such identities. The yogic...

Greetings Reader - There must be something wrong with me. I just looked at a list of the top 50 happiest songs of all time . . . according to science. Yes, researchers have developed a way to analyze how elements of music—tempo, key, composition, lyrics, etc.—come together to produce songs that are scientifically guaranteed to induce the emotional response we call “happiness.” My response when I look at this list? Ugh. Pop songs, Rock songs, Dance, R&B, it doesn’t matter: Each category has...
