Greetings Reader - Our free monthly series, Community Conversations, continues next Wednesday. This month we're going to talk about — you guessed it — the U.S. midterm election results and what yoga wisdom has to say about how to ride the blue wave. The social order and political system described in yoga wisdom literature is designed for both material prosperity and spiritual upliftment for every member of society. It's very different from what we're accustomed to in the United States and in the world as a whole, including in the way it extends inclusivity to the rest of the natural world, not just the wide variety of human beings in the world. However, advancing the values of yoga wisdom aren't necessarily dependent on the social and political system yoga philosophy prescribes. How do we go about advancing yogic values within the system that we have? How do the values of yoga correspond to the values that drove people to the polls? How might the changes in control of Congress and of state governments provide opportunities for activist yogis to participate in making meaningful changes? What happens next? And how do we move forward with the kind of equanimity and non-attachment that yoga philosophy recommends while still leaning into the opportunities that we have to create a dharmic future? I hope you'll join us for COMMUNITY CONVERSATION a free monthly study group Live via Zoom @ 12:00 pm Eastern Standard Time NEXT CONVERSATION: Wednesday, November 11 TOPIC: RIDING THE BLUE WAVE Registration is free – CLICK HERE to get updates and the Zoom link! Greetings from Madrid, Reader, Galavanting around Spain for the past few weeks has been quite an adventure. And, as one would hope, I’ve learned to speak a little Spanish. Okay, very little. As in, just enough to be a polite American tourist who obviously doesn’t speak Spanish. ¡Hola! ¿Vegetariano? La cuenta, por favor. Gracias. Adiós. See? ¡Sí! But the most significant word I learned is tranqui. It’s short for tranquilo, which means calm or peaceful, like the English word “tranquil.” Tranqui...
Greetings from Montserrat, Reader, Imagine what the Temple of Apollo at Delphi would have looked like if it had been designed by Dr. Seuss. That’s a fair description of Parc Güell, a festive 42-acre garden complex draped across the southern slope of Mount Carmel on the northern edge of Barcelona. Designed by Antoni Gaudí, whose Modernist architectural imprint is practically synonymous with the capital of Catalonia, Parc Güell’s undulating architectural forms are rich in symbolism, its native...
Greetings from Tarragona, Reader, I’m sitting a stone’s throw or two from the Mediterranean Sea after spending most of my first week in Spain doing a museum-a-thon in Madrid. If you like art, you’ll love Madrid. I’m not usually a big Picasso fan, but his Harlequin with a Mirror has a wonderfully trippy quality that gets lost in reproduction and Guernica up close is as epic as they say it is. Spending time in front of Bosch’s famous triptych, TheGarden of Earthly Delights, was another...
