CORRECTED EMAIL: Intro to Bhakti Yoga Workshop

Greetings Reader,

Well, the law of averages says that once in a while, the email app won't work. And so it went.

Sorry - the email you received earlier today wasn't the email I intended to send. What you got was old news.

Here's the new news:

My next live online workshop will be an introduction to bhakti-yoga, the yoga of devotion.

When I first got interested in spirituality and mysticism as a teenager, I never thought about yoga and meditation in a devotional context. That felt too religious. I wasn't looking for religion; I was looking for enlightenment.

Alright, well, . . . actually, I was looking for a psychedelic experience that would last more than just 8 hours.

And I found it, but it wasn't where I expected it to be.

I was interested in philosophy, not theology. It didn't occur to me that there could a practice that seamlessly integrated the two.

But that's what bhakti-yoga is: a synthesis of faith and reason that offers us a comprehensive understanding of ourselves, the world, and the source of both.

And a set of practices for applying our understanding in a practical way; a way that connects spiritual ideas to real life.

What I learned from studying bhakti philosophy blew my mind.

Engaging in the practices of bhakti expanded my consciousness.

And developing personal relationships in the context of bhakti satisfied my heart.

Bhakti-yoga is the yoga of spiritual relationships, but it's neither sentimentalism nor a leap of blind faith; it's a science that invites the practitioner to take a transformative journey from spiritual theory to spiritual experience.

I'd love to share my understanding of this spiritual science with you.

So I hope you'll join me for

Greetings Reader, A shift is happening in modern yoga and spiritual spaces. Teachings from sacred traditions are being reinterpreted—this time to support authoritarian narratives of social hierarchy, racial purity, and selective justice. Has ancient wisdom been hijacked to serve authoritarian ideals? Or has the yoga tradition always supported social hierarchies and inequality? Does yoga philosophy align with liberal values like inclusivity, environmentalism, and social justice? Or have...

Greetings Reader - Our free monthly series, Community Conversations, continues next week. This month, we’re going to talk about "Spiritual Economics" and a surprising fact: the yoga wisdom tradition has some specific ideas about tax policies and budget frameworks. Of, course, it should come as no surprise that the yoga wisdom tradition's social policies are designed for the material prosperity and spiritual upliftment of human society. But what exactly are those policies, where do they come...

Greetings Reader, When the world feels like it’s falling apart, joy can feel out of reach—or even inappropriate. And yet, we hear that allowing ourselves to be joyful—insisting on joyfulness in spite of oppression—is an act of resistance. If joy is to be a meaningful act of resistance, it has to be rooted in something deeper than our circumstances. Yoga offers that depth. How? By showing us a path to the highest love. Yoga wisdom describes a complete Absolute Truth that’s both a what and a...
